Jazz duo Silva & Steini

23/06 2024

The jazz duo Silva & Steini consists of singer Silva Þórðardóttir and singer/pianist Steingrímur Teague. They will perform at Laxness Museum - June 23rd at 4pm.

Silva & Steini have been in the studio more or less since their last release and are putting the finishing touches on a new album titled "More Understanding," celebrating the duo's increased experience since their debut. The sound world has deepened in various ways, with dreamy undertones brought to the surface, and the song selection characterized by greater playfulness and freedom. They sing more together, and the arrangements are generally more collaborative. The repertoire will be a mix of dusty standards and songs from jazz masters and other styles, emphasizing space, presence, and the interaction between Silva's and Steingrímur's voices.

On Thursday, June 20, the first song from the upcoming album will be released. Titled "I Ought To Stay Away From You," it is a tribute to the great songwriter Margo Guryan (1937-2021) and was first published this spring. It is likely that Silva & Steini will perform this song at the poet's house next Sunday.

You can listen to their music on Spotify.

The concert starts at 16:00 in the living room at Laxness Museum. The entrance fee is ISK 3,500, and tickets can be purchased at the museum's reception before the concert. We advise visitors that there is ample parking at Jónstóttir.
