The first stop for visitors to Gljúfrasteinn is the reception. A multimedia presentation about the life and work of Halldór Laxness is on show there. Laxness lived for almost the entire 20th century and his life and work reflect the cultural, political and intellectual movements that shook and transformed the world then-the tale of his life is told against the background of the major events in Icelandic and world history. Illustrated with photographs and video footage, the presentation is shown on a touch screen in Icelandic, English and Swedish.
