Gljúfrasteinn - Laxness Museum was the home and workplace of Halldór Laxness (winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1955) and his family for more than half a century. It is a museum, unchanged from when Laxness and his family lived there where guests can see the house, art by Icelandic artists, design furniture and experience cozy atmosphere. Laxness Museum is located near the beautiful river Kaldakvísl where a lovely hiking path lies all the way to Helgufoss waterfall.
During the summer months there are house concerts every Sunday at 16.00
Tours of the house are available in Icelandic, English, German, Swedish and Danish, and an illustrated guide in French.
Laxness Museum is located in Mosfellsbær on your way to Þingvellir National Park (Thingvellir) on the Golden Circle route.
